Who We Are


The North SEERA Hockey Society is the operating area known as Area II of the South East Edmonton Recreation Association (SEERA, also known as the "Southeast Zone").  Formed in 1986, North SEERA operates minor hockey programs for young hockey players aged 4 to 14, from the Initiation level through to Bantam.  NSH combines with our sister operating area, Millwoods Hockey (Area I), to play under the SEERA banner.

North SEERA now consists of 17 communities generally located south of the North Saskatchewan River, east of the C.P.R. railroad tracks along 103rd Street, and north of 51st Avenue, exclusive of the community known as Scona Centre.  The communities represented include Argyll, Avonmore, Bonnie Doon, Capilano, Cloverdale, Forest Heights/Terrace Heights (amalgamated under Forest Heights), Fulton Place, Gold Bar, Hazeldean, Holyrood, Idylwylde, Kenilworth, King Edward Park, Ottewell, Ritchie, Strathearn, and the community of Twin Parks.

Mission Statement


To provide a consistent and effective hockey program in North SEERA by promoting sportsmanship, equity, fair play, teamwork and good conduct, and to further develop and improve the skills of all hockey players by maintaining quality coaching and encouraging quality officiating.


Objectives


North SEERA is committed to the following objectives to achieve its Mission:

  1. To enable players to play and enjoy the game of hockey through the development of individual and team skills and the demonstration of good conduct, life skills, and citizenship within a positive learning environment.
  2. To encourage fair play, equal opportunity, good competition, and sportsmanship in hockey by players, team officials, parents, referees, and members of the Executive in order that the integrity and spirit of the game are maintained and the game is fun for all.
  3. To ensure that hockey Directors, coaches, and managers undertake their responsibilities in a manner designed to enable players to enjoy the game and develop and improve their individual and team skills.
  4. To encourage parents to be supportive of their children  in playing and enjoying hockey and to be supportive of team officials, referees, and members of the Executive to provide a positive hockey and personal experience for all.
  5. To recognize that everyone benefits from good competition and that teams shall be determined in accordance with the Objectives of North SEERA, the Federation of Community Leagues Hockey Council and the Federation Hockey Tiering Committee, and through communication with sister operating areas.
  6. To recognize that all players deserve an equal opportunity for advancement through the established levels and categories of hockey and that it is the responsibility of North SEERA to ensure that team formation is fair for all.
  7. To encourage ongoing communication between members of the Executive, team officials, parents, and players to create a positive hockey and personal experience for all.
  8. To provide the necessary organizational, administrative, and financial structure to ensure that the Mission and Objectives of North SEERA are achieved for its membership.
  9. To ensure that the cost of hockey is reasonable and does not discourage participation by players and parents and that opportunities for sponsorship, fundraising, and reducing costs are available.

North Seera Hockey Society
